Thin Green Line Foundation

Helping a Not-For-Profit create awareness to protect nature’s protectors

Background

The Thin Green Line Foundation (TGLF) provides vital support to Park Rangers and their communities who are the front-line of conservation.

The TGLF works predominantly in developing nations and conflict zones, and with Indigenous Park Rangers within Australia and abroad.

In the sad circumstance of a Ranger losing his or her life in the line of duty, TGLF helps to ensure the widows and families are looked after into the future.

Challenge 1

Every year Fallen Rangers are commemorated on World Ranger Day, 31 July. Their details are recorded in the Ranger Roll of Honour and Location Map.

As names are supplied quite close to the deadline, a high level of speed and attention to detail are required.

Action

I chose a typeface with excellent small scale readability and paid particular attention to typesetting and layout for legibility of information. All creative was delivered on time and free from errors.

Challenge 2

The current website donation portal needed improving. As the entire website will be redesigned once funding becomes available, the foundation expressed interest in exploring concepts and design possibilities.

Action

I proposed a donation page update with thought to User Experience and UI design.

Challenge 3

TGLF wanted to raise awareness of World Ranger Day on the 31st of July through social media channels.

Action

I created shareable social media assets, including a printable certificate for photos and a custom profile badge. The social media assets were translated into three languages and made available for sharing.

Challenge 4

TGLF had previously designed a printed brochure and wanted to replace the content for a new investor report.

Some current style examples were provided, however the new information did not fit the layout, and the previously designed brochure was stylistically outdated.

Action

I worked hard to re-style the brochure with new icons, bespoke illustrations, and layout tweaks thereby avoiding the need for a full re-design as requested by the foundation.

Additional

I enjoyed working with the foundation so much that I based a student project on the foundation’s website as part of an online UX Design course that I was enrolled in at the time.
